Multifocal Intraocular Lenses

ReSTOR Multifocal

ReStor IOL ExampleIn March 2005, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of Alcon Laboratories AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL. The ReSTOR® lens provides our Sacramento patients with a full range of vision following cataract surgery and first became available to international surgeons in 1994. Since then, over 21 million lenses have been implanted.

During the procedure, the ReSTOR® intraocular lens (IOL) is inserted through a small cut in the cornea, typically the same incision used to remove the cataract if cataract eye surgery was just performed. Once inserted, the lens gently unfolds and is set into position.

ReStor Lens Being implanted in the Eye DiagramIn the FDA’s clinical study, 80 percent of patients receiving the ReSTOR® IOL reported that they never wear glasses for any activities. They can read a book, work on the computer, and drive a car with increased freedom from glasses. In fact, patients were so pleased with their vision, nearly 94 percent of them said they would have the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL implanted again if given the choice. To learn more about the ReSTOR® intraocular lens (IOL), contact our Sacramento surgeons at Sacramento Eye Consultants today.

Tecnis Multifocal

Tecnis IOL ExampleThe Tecnis lens is designed to give patients back their youthful vision by providing patients with high-quality vision at any distance, and in any light condition—even in low light. The Tecnis Multifocal is an implantable lens that restores vision after cataract surgery and corrects presbyopia (the need for reading glasses). It offers an excellent chance to become independent of your glasses.
