Shirley Z. Wu, MD

Shirley Z. Wu, MD is a board-certified fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, cataract surgery, and laser refractive surgery. She graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and then received both a medical and master’s degree from NYU Grossman School of Medicine as a Dean’s Scholar. She then moved to Cleveland and completed her ophthalmology residency and fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at the Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic, training with world-renowned leaders in the field.

Dr. Wu was initially drawn to the field of ophthalmology for its ability to restore vision and improve patient quality of life. She chose to specialize in Cornea & Refractive surgery because she enjoyed the clinical and surgical diversity and found it rewarding to treat the part of the eye most responsible for quality of vision. She practices at the full scope of her expertise, including diagnosis and treatment of corneal and external disease, and performing cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, and laser vision correction. During residency and fellowship, she published multiple research papers, with a particular focus on cataract surgical outcomes, and presented at multiple national conferences. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, pickleball, creating art, and spending time with her family and dog. Dr. Wu is excited to be joining Sacramento Eye Consultants and looks forward to partnering with patients to achieve their vision goals.
