PRK/Advanced Surface Ablation

PRK SacramentoDr. Grutzmacher performed the first PRK eye surgery in Sacramento in early December of 1995. The patient's uncorrected vision was improved to 20/20. Her pre-laser uncorrected vision was 20/200, and she is no longer routinely wearing glasses. Since that time, the doctors have completed well over 20,000 PRK and LASIK eye surgery procedures at their Sacramento practice.

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) is a vision correction procedure for the treatment of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Like LASIK, PRK eye surgery uses the Allegretto Wave Eye-Q Laser or Visx Star S4 excimer laser to reshape the cornea; however, tissue is removed from the corneal surface rather than from under a corneal flap. Typically, about 10 to 15 percent of the cornea's thickness is removed during surgery, and as a result, vision problems are reduced or eliminated.

The eyes will need some time to heal following surgery. Patients should typically allow three to five days before driving or returning to work. To learn more about PRK eye surgery at our Sacramento practice, contact us today.
