Richard D. Grutzmacher MD, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School. Dr. Grutzmacher completed his internship and Internal Medicine residency at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He then fulfilled his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Dr. Grutzmacher is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology. A fellowship in Diseases and Surgery of the Cornea was attained at Flinders Medical Center in Australia. Following residency and fellowship training, Dr. Grutzmacher entered academic practice as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Washington. He headed the Corneal and External Disease Section for five years.
In 1987, LASIK surgeon Richard D. Grutzmacher entered private practice in Sacramento, California. His practice is limited to diseases and surgery of the
cornea, cataracts, and laser vision correction. For over two decades, Dr. Grutzmacher has been active in surgery of the cornea, including a variety of refractive surgical procedures. He has published numerous articles in ophthalmology literature and has lectured nationally. In addition, Dr. Grutzmacher, a well-known LASIK surgeon, has been instrumental in advancing refractive surgery in the Sacramento Valley region by instructing numerous area physicians in PRK and LASIK.
Richard D. Grutzmacher was co-founder and medical director of Focal Point Vision Center. Answering the demand for a new Ophthalmic Surgery Center, Dr. Grutzmacher continued his tradition of offering the best care to his patients and expanded Focal Point by co-founding Capital City Surgery Center.
A California native, LASIK surgeon Dr. Grutzmacher lives in Sacramento with his wife; the couple has two grown children.
